1. Cut out processed foods.

Processed foods are void of nutrition, treated to promote longer shelf life and pumped full of sodium, sugar, fat and chemical additives like flavor enhancers or artificial colors. The end product is something your body can't even recognize anymore. Additionally, the additives make these products addictive so you keep craving more and need to consume more to satisfy your cravings. Don't let the food industry get the best of you!

2. Eat more whole foods.

Whole, raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, raw nuts, beans and healthy cold-pressed oils fill your body with the vitamins, nutrients, minerals, antioxidants, complex carbs, fiber, protein and healthy fats it needs to be in good working order, repair itself when necessary and keep you feeling energized!

3. Uncover food sensitivities or allergies.

An elimination diet removes common food allergens such as wheat, dairy, soy, eggs and nuts for a set amount of time, usually up to two weeks. Then, one thing at a time is added back in as you keep a food journal to make notes of any changes. A nutrition expert such as myself can review the food journal and make recommendations on which foods may be beneficial to leave out of your diet for longer periods of time to help improve energy and weight loss results.

4. Detox.

Stored toxins are one of the leading causes of inflammation, chronic conditions, excess weight and fatigue. Toxicity prevents your body from operating the way it should. Get rid of the toxins and enjoy easy weight loss, reduction in chronic symptoms and major boosts in energy.

5. Exercise.

The human body is designed to move! It needs lots of moving, running, jumping and stretching to stay operating at its peak. Engaging in cardio and strength-training exercises boosts your metabolic rate to better utilize the food you eat and increase energy levels! Exercise helps move unwanted substances out of the body via your lymphatic system, recharging major body systems and aiding in detoxification. Exercise is not only good for your body, it's good for your mind and soul too.

6. De-stress.

Stress management is a key component of a happy, healthy life. Stress can really take a toll on your overall health and wellness. Build some time to relax into your busy schedule. Treat yourself to some pampering at home or at a spa, write in a journal, meditate or pray, talk with a good friend or close family member and/or do something you enjoy. These things will go a long way towards helping lower your stress level immediately!

7. Get quality sleep.

The quality of sleep is actually more important than the amount you get, in terms of renewing energy levels. Thankfully, there are a number of things you can do to boost your sleep quality. Exercise is key to getting more restful sleep. Eating dinner 3 hours before laying down for the night allows your digestive system to quiet down before going to sleep. If you consume caffeine, bear in mind it can take 11 hours or more for caffeine to fully exit of your system, so try to avoid caffeine after 11am. Taking steps to improve sleep quality will help you restore nightly, feel rested, renewed, and have tons more energy!
